If you have extra paint that you no longer want, first, see if there are alternate uses for the paint (use as primer for another project, give it away, etc.).  If not, hazardous waste collection may be a solution.  If you are looking to dispose of paint on your own, the key is to make sure it is all completely dried.  For small amounts of extra paint, apply directly to cardboard or newspaper until it's all used up and dry.
