So, the vinegar does NOT help the cats from scratching on the couch? And it will stain my couch as well? I haven't tried it yet. I have one cat that's very old and a very new couch. My other cats are de clawed but since my old cat is 18-19yrs old and blind I see no point in de clawing him. He's very weak and just uses his claws to pull himself up onto the couch. But the material of the couch is very prone to this. Any suggestions? Also, Northwoods a long with Nature's Miracles will help with the cats spraying. All my cats are spayed/neutered but I've tried this in the past. It gets rid of the existing odor. Once they spray once it's time to get them neutered! Usually happens when they're about 6 months old.

After two or three times, this will stop them from scratching the sofa.....and this method does not harm them.

Repeated application of a mild acid will destroy the surface of the couch legs. Maybe that's the second part - how to repair acid damaged couches.

February 27 2012 at 5:22 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWe have a 6 foot cat tree, scratching posts, and a 9 1/2 foot cat pole with sissel rope. Couch and sofa are for leaping only, they never really claw them or even rest on them. We also bought dog beds for them, and they love curling up in them
February 27 2012 at 3:52 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy cat liked to pee on my leather sofa too. I cleaned everything as best I could with regular shampoo, and then went to Petco and bought Nature's Miracle pet odor cleaner. It gets rid of the bacteria so that they can't smell and remark the same spot. I spray it every once in awhile just because I'm paranoid and to make sure. It seems to help alot so far. Also, if you get a leather cleaner that has a citrus scent, or mix a small amount of lemon juice in leather cleaner and use that, it will also help.
