How to Remove Perspiration Stains

Featured pro:
Category: Home ImprovementStains Be Gone

Perspiration stains happen, but they don't have to ruin your shirts or workout clothes. Here, Eric Stromer offers easy methods on how to remove sweat stains with common household items like soap, salt, baking soda and white vinegar. Treat your clothing as soon as possible, and perspiration marks will be a thing of the past.

Step 1: Soap
Wet the stain and rub the area with a bar of soap. Rinse.

Step 2: Salt
If the soap doesn't work, add salt right on the stain and rinse again.

Step 3: Baking Soda
For more stain-fighting power, make a paste out of baking soda and water. It should be the consistency of peanut butter. Apply it to the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing.

Step 4: White Vinegar
If your stain is extra stubborn, mix a quarter-cup of white vinegar with three gallons of water. Soak your shirt in the mixture for another 30 minutes and then rinse. White vinegar doesn't always mix with silk, linen or wool, so read your shirt label.

Step 5: Wash
Put your shirt in the wash. Remember, putting clothing in the dryer will set a stain, so try to get it out completely before washing.

Why is it necessary to have that un-nerving back-ground noise (music)
playing during the clip? Makes one feel out-of-breath while trying to get
the intended information. It is sooooo unnecessary and annoying!

Why bother with all those extra steps, Go right to the vinegar. If it's silk or wool, go right to the dry cleaners.

I have never thrown out a sweat stained shirt. Washing always works for me (or my wife, actually)

That is a lot of work to get out pit stain's........Hydrogen peroxide is another form of bleach and it shorten's the life of your clothes(lighten's everything up).
1)Keep a spray bottle with vinegar by your washer & spray the arm pits of each shirt & collars, workout clothes let them sit for 30 min, wash with laundry detergent(no residual vinegar smell).
Vinegar is a natural fabric softener.
1-a) Another way is to use fresh squeezed lemon juice on the stain and set out in the sun, It will remove the stain naturally-wash as usual.
2)Any oily stain pre-treat with dawn dish soap, work the dawn into the stain let it sit for 20-30min, wash with laundry detergent.
Do not put in dryer if you can still see the stain - the heat from the dryer will set the stain.
3)Baseball caps run through your dishwasher without dishwasher soap on the top shelf only.(I have 4 boy's & 1 husband a lot of caps to wash)
4)Baby clothes, I would use oxy clean mixed with dawn dish soap(Make a paste) let it soak for 30-40min, then wash with unsented, dye free laundry detergent, do not put In dryer the heat will set the stain.(If you still see the stain, start over)
Good Luck Everyone.
