How to Remove Lipstick

Featured pro:
Category: Home ImprovementStains Be Gone

Lipstick marks don't have to ruin your clothing or upholstery. In this video, Eric Stromer offers up three great ways to removing those stubborn stains: toothpaste, alcohol and hairspray. That's right, the common household products do wonders in helping to dissolve lipstick, so before you throw away that shirt, try one of these stain-fighting methods.

Step 1: The Toothpaste Method
Toothpaste can be your best friend when it comes to lipstick stains. Choose a white paste (not a gel!) and work a little bit into the stain. Blot off the excess and rinse it in the sink.

Step 2: The Alcohol Method
Another way to remove lipstick stains is to dab them with alcohol. If you don't have alcohol, you can also try hairspray. Rinse with cold water.

Items You'll Need for this GMC Trade Secret

  • Non-Gel Toothpaste
  • Alcohol
  • Hairspray

Remember to get the shirt collar dry before you go home. Your wife will properly know what you have been doing at the bar, and, if she has watched this, knows that you've been smooching someone.

I did a quick load of laundry of maninly favorite outfits and didn't realize there was a tube of red lipstick in one of the pockets. I ran everything threw the dryer - and thought it was all ruined. My mom had read that hand cleaner - the mechanic's goopy kind - would do the trick. Although it took a lot of rubbing, and several treatments, all my items were salvaged. I always check the pockets - even 25 years after this experience.

A greese releasing cleaner, rub with a toothbrush and was in hot water. The trick is numberous treatments if the first one doesn't work. My thought it "what do I have to loose?"
