How to Remove Coffee and Tea Stains

Featured pro:
Category: Home ImprovementStains Be Gone

It's all too easy to spill coffee on yourself, but it doesn't have to ruin your shirt. Using a blotting method and mild dish soap can do the trick. However, if your stain is extra stubborn, Eric Stromer suggests using white vinegar and/or an egg yolk to make it disappear.

Step 1: Cloths
Place a light-colored cloth under the stain to prevent it from spreading. Then place a cloth on top of the stain to absorb as much liquid as possible, and to prevent the stain from spreading.

Step 2: Dish Soap
Using your fingers, rub some mild dish soap directly onto the stain and rinse with cold water.

Step 3: White Vinegar
If you still see some residual stain, mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. Then soak the stained area in the solution.

Step 4: Egg Yolk
For a really tough stain, apply an egg yolk directly to the area, blot away the additional egg yolk, then rinse with cold water. As a general rule, make sure stains in clothes are out before putting them into the dryer. The heat will set the stain.

Items You'll Need for this GMC Trade Secret

  • Cloths
  • Mild Liquid Soap

  • Egg

Its a great video. I am really impressed with the ways you have opted for removing coffee stains. If the Coffee satin is a permanent then you should try alcohol, Rub alcohol at the stained area then grab a clean white towel and put the stained item on top. But I recommend testing on any other seam of fabric.

a good stain fighter is soda water- has disodium phosphate. Not bad with Scotch either.

The one I learned that most surprised me was to use milk to get blood out of clothing. Just soak the area in a bowl of milk suficient to cover the bloody area for about an hour or two. Rinse in cold water and wash with normal treatment for that material. The blood comes right out.

I need to know how to get INK out of a couch cushion ...the cushion does not come off the couch. The stain has been there quiet some time and Ive tried several things to try and get it out. Its a spot about the size of a quarter. All Ive done is made it spread a little.

thanks

Hi, thank you for your help. How do you remove baby oil stains when clothes have been washed and dried?

Peroxide on fresh blood will bubble up and start working on the enzymes in the blood. Do not rinse prior to pouring the peroxide on the blood stain.
Blot the bubbles and repeat soaking the blood stain with peroxide for about 10 minutes then wash in cold water. That is how we get blood stains out of our clothes in Emergency Medical Services. P.S. It will not work on clothes that have been washed and dried in the dryer.
