Exterior Paint Color Tips for Your Home

Featured pro:
Category: Home ImprovementPaint 101

Selling your home?  Here are some tips on how to best dress up the exterior of your house.

Step 1: Warm Up
Have you ever wondered what paint should cover a particular wall in your home? If you’re painting to get ready to sell your home, go for warm, neutral colors—and just pick 3.

Step 2: Get Rich Quick
Choose a warm, rich color for the entry, and an inviting shade for the front door, such as red or blue.

Step 3: Stay Neutral
When painting the outside of the house, keep 3 things in mind: body, accent and trim. Be creative, but again, keep it fairly neutral.

For the most part, a neutral exterior color is a good bet, but bolder, more unique colors work for certain architectural styles.

Neutrals might be fine for some houses, but many types of architecture seem to just beg for unique colors and color schemes. Look at the beautiful 'painted ladies' in San Francisco or the Easter egg shades of beach houses on the Florida Gulf Coast. I can't even imagine those painted in neutrals. I say paint suited to the architecture and setting.
