Step 1: Get a Trim
Learn how to use your electric hedge trimmer like a pro, from keeping it in shape to shaping your garden. First, with the power disconnected, check the hedge blades to make sure they’re clear of branches and other debris.

Step 2: In the Fray
Check the power cord for cuts or frayed areas.

Step 3: Stuck on You
Use soap and water to clean the blades. Use a resin remover to take off any sticky sap.

Step 4: Lube It Up
Spray lubricant on the clean blades.

Step 5: Watch Your Back
Make sure you have a long enough cord that it doesn’t restrict your movement, and keep the cord behind you.

Step 6: Little Off the Top
Stand on a firm, stable surface, and start trimming from the bottom up. When trimming the top, hold the trimmer straight out from your body.

Step 7: Circular Motion
For rounded tops, start from the bottom and work your way in and up as you proceed.
