Wednesday at 12:55 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI foster dogs, as many as 11 at one time, so to solve the problem of no grass growing we put in a product called "Doggie Grass" which is like astro turf but stronger about 5 years ago. I love it. No weeds, no mud and I dont have to water it. Wish I could do my whole front yard also. Dogs dont dig it either so no holes. Its solves all the problems with chemicals etc. I take care of the back yard where the doggie grass is and my poor husband has to now take care of the real grass everywhere else in the front, which is now weeds. I refuse to use chemicals on my lawn, but my neighbor does and yes he has very nice looking grass but I wouldnt want to step on it.... Doggie grass is the answer and it may be expensive at first but saves money in the long run...

March 18 2013 at 8:32 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHere in the south west, people use a lot of rocks, as ground cover (different sizes and colors) instead of grass, also ground cover plants of some sort, even native grass seeds that only grows a few inches tall and don't need mowing. For interest they use large rocks and or "dry stream beds" of rocks, with a few drouth tollerant plants, bushes and flowers.

The soap helps keeps the vinegar on the leaves of the weeds Or in your case the wild raspberries. The Acetic Acid in the vinegar does 2 things: 1) It burns the weeds foliage on contact and 2)TEMPORARILY lowers the PH of the soil, making it hard for the weed to make a come back. Tips & Warnings: 1) for best resuts, use on a sunny, dry day. 2) Vinegar will kill any vegetation that it comes into contact with, so avoid using it around plants that you wish to keep.3) Some weeds are persistent, and may need to be treated more than once. I just started doing this so I can not give a report. Good luck.

Totally throws the nitrogen and other nutrients way out of wack. I have worked in garden centers and have gotten in trouble repeatedly for suggesting customers buy bags of organic composted garden soil rather that a "magic spray". I don't care. I am not going to lie for the sake of a quick sale. Anyone want to comment on the majical benefits of Miracle Grow?
May 06 2012 at 6:38 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyHow do I eliminate my crazy (doesn't even mow the lawn) neighbor's wild raspberries? They come up all over my backyard and have destroyed all of my heirloom flowerbeds and beautiful bequeathed shrubs! They are loaded with vicious thorns, so pulling, or even cutting them is out of the question. In desperation, I'm starting to lean toward mass herbicide, but my other neighbor's cats visit and my dog likes to hang out in the yard and I fear for their safety AND for my fragile local environment (I'm situated right in the middle of 2 salt water canals that open to protected wetlands and the Atlantic Ocean). Can someone offer me some sage advice? These monsters have got to go!
silsez@aol.com. Thanks much in advance!!!
I am a landscape design and I have mostly weeds such a clover, bermuda and crab grass among other weeds in my so called lawn. If it green, growing and mowable, I am fine with it. I don't fertilize, poison aerate or thatch. The clover feeds the bunnies so then they stay out of my veggie gardens. The bees love it too and we all know the benefits of pollination. You dig anywhere in my yard and you will find a boat load of earth worms. A great sign that my soil is healthy. Pesticides and herbicides kill soil. Everyone talks about all that junk getting into the water supply but where would we be with dead soil?
