How to Create a Wall Collage
Finding art for a focal wall can cost thousands of dollars. Instead, try creating a layered collage out of mixed vintage frames. They're easy to find online, at flea markets and secondhand stores, and for just $200, you can make a beautiful mixed media art installation that is sure to impress.
Collect as many vintage frames as you can. Look for them online, at garage sales and flea markets. The frames don't have to match. You can mix different finishes and shapes and still create a cohesive look.
Create your placement by arranging the frames on the floor, or on a large table on craft paper, until you get your desired dimensions.
You can also trace out your pattern, making notes of which frames go where so you don't forget when you're installing it on your wall.
Use corks to keep the top layer in place while you're arranging them on the floor, however, when you're ready to install, you'll need to secure the top layer to the bottom layer with small screws on the underside.
Feel free to use mirrors, sheet music or other materials, as well, but make sure their placement is balanced so the vignette is not lopsided.
