Lampshades
Lamps can come in many different styles, but lamp shades are often pretty basic. With just a little ribbon, some decorative beads, a few metal appliques and a glue gun, you can easily transform old lampshades into something new. As Carter Oosterhouse will show you, it doesn't take a lot of effort to add a lot of visual interest.
-
Step 1: Lace
Carter uses a hot glue gun to adhere black lace on to a white lampshade. This adds a lot of style in just minutes.
-
Step 2: Ribbon
Carter uses a hot glue gun and some ribbon to give an ordinary lampshade a contemporary look. He adds a decorative bow and inexpensive metal flowers for extra beauty.
-
Step 3: Decorative Beading
Carter glues a string of decorative beading on the fringe of the shade for added color and texture. Try to match the seam of your beads to the seam of the shade so it's hidden.
-
Step 4: Appliques
Carter uses a contrasting applique to create a striking design on a solid color shade. It make take a few tries to get the placement right, but it'll be worth it.

December 04 2011 at 7:15 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI guess most of you did not get what he was doing. I don't think you can buy a custom or decorative shade, even at WalMart , for less than decorating one. I bought a plain white shade and put the same trim on that he put on in brown with orange beads except I did mine in aqua. It sure would have cost me a lot more to get one decorated in beads the color I wanted than what I paid for shade and materials. I bought the bead trim at 50% off at JoAnn's. Thanks for sharing with us Carter.

December 04 2011 at 5:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replydude that's cute but nice lampshades will cost you the same as you spent on materials. i myself prefer to throw a square of red chiffon over my lampshade to get in the mood.
November 25 2011 at 7:14 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm not about to be tacking lace and appliques on an old lamp shade...If I even notice that a lamshade has to be replaced, I'll go to Martin's, or Home Depot, or Lowes, K-mart, Walmart and buy a NEW one! Or throw out the damned lamp! Sheesh!

Not everyone is able to watch videos,
some of us are responsible, and do not purchase what we cannot pay for.
President Obama has made our country into 3rd class.
I'd like to know how to change my lamp shade. But I sure as hell
am unable because I cannot afford high speed, only aol dial-up.
I wonder if anybody is listening.
SORRY Peacocks, I watched the video, and it's not a big deal, all he does is add some lace around de lamp shade, or flowers, no biggy, actually not my style. Don't feel bad, you didn't miss a big change on lamp shades, bows, flowers and laces....... and apliquees... have a nice end of Thanksgiving day!
November 24 2011 at 6:17 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI am listening, I am sorry you have that slow dial up, I had it for years and it made me want to die. Be thankful, most of these videos are so dumb they have the same effect, this is a guy pasting lace on his lamp shade. Forget Obama and all else, make you own way and believe you are as good as anyone else, money or not.
November 24 2011 at 6:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYes, what was he thinking? That's a project for a kindergarten kid, hahaha, and they are not so flattering either, peacocks didn't miss anything, geesh, I can do better than that...lol
