How to Decorate a Fireplace

Featured pro:
Category: Home DecorDesign Inspiration

If you have a fireplace that you're not using, Carter Oosterhouse will show you how to turn it into an interesting focal point of the room. With natural objects, candles, decorative items and more, the design expert creates four easy options for beautiful and captivating spaces. If you love them all, you can even switch the look up depending on your mood.

Step 1: Inspired by Nature
Use wood logs and branches that you can find in your own back yard. The natural look can be enhanced by adding river rock, small moss balls, oversize moss balls and dried flowers.

Step 2: Romantic Glow
Use candles and a mirror to incorporate light into a room. The glow of the candlelight creates romantic ambiance, similar to that of a fireplace. Use a tiered spice rack to vary the height of the candles, and place a mirror in the back of the fireplace to brighten the room and make it look larger.

Step 3: Inanimate Objects
Decorative boxes and/or books can give your fireplace a simple and clean look. The fireplace acts as a frame, keeping everything tidy.

Step 4: Pop of Green
Add life to your fireplace with a fern, using it to contrast stone mantles. Surround it with candlesticks and vases in muted colors to really make the plant pop.

Carter,
Brilliant...A lot of us have fireplaces we seldom, if ever use. Great ideas to beautifully accesorize an area of the living room often left empty and desolate. Thanks.
