How to Create Wallpaper Art

Featured pro:
Category: Home Decor

Wallpaper is more versatile than you think. Carter Oosterhouse shows you how to use different patterned and textured wall coverings to make art, transform bookcases and even brighten up your staircase. With just a little bit of wallpaper, you can create a lot of visual interest in your home.

Step 1: Frame It
Choose a tight or floral patterned wallpaper and tape to place it in a picture frame. Different patterns can compliment each other when hung side-by-side, so don't be afraid to get creative.

Step 2: Bold Bookcases
Cut wallpaper pieces to fit the back wall of your bookcase. Apply wallpaper glue and stick to the inside of the shelf for an extra pop. You can use textured wallpaper to transform furniture, as well.

Step 3: Striking Staircase
Create an unexpected focal point by applying wallpaper to the risers of your staircase. Use a bright color or interesting pattern in a vinyl or thicker wallpaper so it's easy to clean.

The wallpaper on the risers had too much glare, I'd have chosen something with a matte finish. Safety first.

nice ideas BUT
ya should have smoothed out the wall paper in the bookcase
the wall paper on the stairs looked really nice; very eye catching. However one can see that the piece behind you was not properly cut & the edges were showing hanging over.
Come on Carter! You are a professional & been doing this 4 years! Make viewers believe it.
