Featured pro:
Category: Home DecorUpgrade Your Exterior

Your front porch is a blank slate that can speak volumes about your home if you invest just a little time in decorating. Whether you have a lot of front porch space or a little, the way you arrange, balance and scale your decor and furniture can make all the difference in how you make use of the space. Carter Oosterhouse shares his trade secrets for choosing the right porch furniture to coordinate with your home's style and then arranging it precisely.

Step 1: Scale and Balance
Use painter's tape to plan out the placement of your furniture. Get a feel of how much room it's going to take up.

Step 2: Match Your House
If your house is traditional get traditional furniture. Remember the front porch is literally the first thing folks see when they pull up--- make it your own.

Step 3: Chandelier
Consider adding a chandelier to your porch; it not only adds charm but gives off warm, inviting light.

Step 4: Weatherproof
Finally whatever furniture you select make sure it is fuctional and weather resistant.

Items You'll Need for this GMC Trade Secret

  • Outdoor Furniture
  • Pillows
  • Chandelier
  • Painter's Tape

I don't think the chairs and tables are put there necessarly to be used , even though they certainly could be, I'm thinking it's more for eye apeal or curb apeal. Wish my porch was large enough to decorate. But I do have a pretty rusty red door with brass knocker and house numbers on it.

Porch furniture?! Business, churches, and homes within
The Great Lakes Metro-Complex know better. Google Earth
Detroit and you'll see a trend is to use concrete or glass block.
People are blocking basement and first floor illegal entry areas.
Some people remove all exterior decking. Exterior furniture of
these areas is through-bolted iron or steel security bars, metal
sills, steel doors and very narrow exterior vision slits. Please
consider raised garden beds 4x4 feet wide around your home
to sleep below random bullets. New single floor construction
should employ reinforced concrete atop poured slab. Use two
natural lighting options. Choose narrow slit size of glass block
stacked atop each other and/or roofing skylights. Floor Two
needs shatter resistant glass or Lexan. You'll want standard
window size for fire department or emergency emergency.

I'm sorry, this is way too much work. It's more work putting the tape around, moving it than it is to just take a couple of kitchen chairs, set them out, if you like them, get outdoor chairs and you are all set.
I used to put chairs on each side of my front door but someone stole a cushion off one of my chairs. Because of their style it will be $200.00 each to replace them! Instead, I gave the other cushion away, bought inexpensive ones and put them on the back deck. The front? well, it's a front step with a matt.
Can't even live in a nice neighborhood!

I'm sorry, but the tape is a huge waste of time, and your chairs and arrangements look just awful. Emperor's New Clothes!!

Yeah, I don't get the tape thing. The furniture is small and easy to move around. I like what someone said about using cardboard instead of tape, that makes sense if you have large furniture that's not easy to move around.
