Hanging Wall Garden

Featured pro:
Category: Home Decor

Every room could use a little greenery, and now Carter Oosterhouse has found a way for you to have a beautiful indoor garden all year round. From herbs to succulents, it is possible to foster lush plants in a creative way. With a hanging shoe rack and few gardening supplies, here's how you can bring the outdoors in.

Step 1
Hang a hanging shoe rack and fill each pocket with some soil. Keep in mind that things can get messy, so choose your workspace wisely.

Step 2
Insert your plants. Consider grouping them with like plants or arranging them for color. Adhere extra plastic on the back to create a moisture barrier when you hang the garden on your wall.

Step 3
Fill a planter box with rocks as a catch-all.

Step 4
Mount brackets along the wall to hold your planter. Measure from the top of the planter to figure out where to mount the rod from which your garden will hang. Install wall anchors and a pipe.

Step 5
Use heavy duty S-hooks to hang the garden on the pipe. Enjoy!

I did this last year on an outdoor fence, as the flowers or herbs grow they cover the shoe bag. I cut the shoe bag in half so I had two planters. The results were beautiful.

TACKY, TACKY, TACKY! And when you water the plants, what then? No drainage wholes and it would be impossible to have them or you'd contantly be having a huge mess to clean up all around it! (ALL flowering plants, herbs, etc. will need watering all the time! why not just use planters and do it the sensible way!

Wouldn't it be just great if you used a paint ( all one color ) WATER RESISTANT, and then after all is done, insert all the beautiful greenery? This way no one will really know for sure that what is hanging is a shoe rack? I think it is a marvelous idea, by water resistant paint ( your choice of color) and poke very very tiny , tiny tiny, little holes at the very beneath bottom of each individual pocket will make for a much aerated and healthier environment without ruining the look after a short time? This i would love to see.... Keep going..... without creativity what do have? Thank you...

OK this is just plain ugly, maybe a kids project for their play house. I would be concerned about growing any herbs for human consumption in that plastic as well.

The weight of it would be rediculous, aside from looking really bad.

That is the worse hanging garden I have ever seen. The pockets are going to get dirty and the pipe is anything but house beautiful. Perhaps you need a few more moments to think about a great indoor garden
