Floating Frame Art

Featured pro:
Category: Home Decor

Kelly Edwards has a trade secret for getting that great finishing touch to your art by using floating frames.

Step 1: Add Dimension
Set your wall art apart with floating frames—a great way to showcase small art and give it a unique look. Shadow boxes have depth and dimension, so they’re perfect for items that aren’t flat, such as decorative butterflies or mementoes from a special trip.

Step 2: Shadow Boxing
Or you can make the shadow boxes on your own. Spray a piece of construction paper with adhesive and attach it to the back of your frame.

Step 3: Loose Leaves
Run a piece of clear thread through a translucent skeleton leaf, then tape the end of the thread to the top of the box, so the leaf dangles halfway down the box. Do this with several leaves at various heights.

Step 4: Stay Afloat
Add the backing to the box, and the leaves will look like they’re floating.
