How to Decorate Walls With Art

Featured pro:
Category: Home DecorDesign Inspiration

Learn a few simple tricks to give your rooms just the right accent by adding art to the walls. Kelly Edwards shares her trade secrets to get you started.

Step 1: Size Matters
Size and color are the two main factors: you don’t want a piece that’s too large and overwhelming or too small to make a statement. To make art the centerpiece of your room, downplay your other elements, such as your window treatments, carpet and furniture.

Step 2: It’s all Black and White
Select three black frames that are the same size and shape, and frame black and white prints in them for a classic wall statement.

Step 3: Off the Wall
Spray-paint various frames the same color. Then find a bold pattern of fabric, and frame swatches of the fabric for a unique, sophisticated, multi-piece masterpiece.

Step 4: Scramble It
Find a mural or large poster you love. Then cut up the mural into pieces and frame a number of them in matching frames, and arrange them in an interesting placement on the wall.

Items You'll Need for this GMC Trade Secret

  • 3 black frames
  • 3 black and white prints
  • spray paint
  • frames of various sizes
  • mural or large poster
  • matching frames

Kelly,

In the 21 century various wall arrangements can be designed with WallPlanner software and pictures are hung using AccuHang wireless technology.

You may try to make your own designs.
