How to Organize Food Storage

Featured pro:
Category: Cooking

Your refrigerator never needs to be messy if you follow Curtis Stone's simple trade secrets for organized food storage. Maximize space-saving by stacking your perishable groceries in reusable, lidded containers that you label with masking tape and a marking pen. This easy, no-frills method will revolutionize the way you organize your refrigerator and freezer, simplify your shopping list and prolong the life of your produce!

Step 1: Invest in Stackable Containers
Curtis recommends investing in a set of reusable, air-tight stackable containers for your fridge. Not only are they eco-friendly, but they allow you to control the way your groceries are stored.

Step 2: Label
Label all containers with the item and the purchase date so you know how long you've had them. If you have a labeler, great, but some masking tape and a marker will work too.

Step 3: Simple Tips
Take fruit out of flimsy plastic boxes and get rid of plastic bags. They can be neatly put away in your storage containers. Herbs should be wrapped in a damp paper towel before being packed into a container. This extra step will help maintain their freshness. As for stock or other liquids, try pouring them into ice cube trays and freezing them. This way you can just pop out a cube or two whenever you need it, while still keeping remaining portions stored in the freezer.

Items You'll Need for this GMC Trade Secret

  • Storage Containers
  • Masking Tape
  • Marker

Hi,
Curtis Stone, I am one of your fans on the cooking shows. ON this particular website/videos, it would have been nice to have subtiltes so we would understand what you are saying. 4 perfect examples - Why are the raspberries stored in a container instead of air flowing container when raspberries are prone to mold very fast? I can see the herbs wrapped in towels which I presume is premoisted with water to preserve it for how long? Someting was wrapped - it looked like steak or bacon then placed in container?
What was poured into the icecube tray? Chicken broth or what? And what purpose does it serve or helps?
How is anything you you mentioned on the video indicted to be refrigeratored or in the freezer? There is no visual notation of that.

I am not critizing YOUR WORK but only the information to come across FULLY to everyone accessibly on the internet!!! Some of the websites I have linked on to have audio transcribed captioned which is the worst captioned services ever because it based on the sound spoken instead of the actual wording/meaning/verbally without doublechecking the correct wording which turns us off to continue to watch the videos. I hope you can resubmit the video with subtitles. Thank you, Amy S.

@Joan Bowyer-most of those containers can be purchased at Bed, Bath & Beyond (try online if there's not one nearby) and I think some are called Lock and Lock.
@Borisbadenovisback-considering that these videos are on the internet which is available pretty much everywhere, we Americans no longer have a monopoly on anything.

Keep all foods that tend to get soft sealed in refrigerator ie-Bread, crackers, chips , even popcorn . They will star fresh for weeks.

Any reason they couldn't find an American to be the "featured Pro"?

Do we have to go out of the country for everything?

Curtis Stone is an internationally known chef, charming, easy on the eyes & ears. There are oodles of chefs featured in cooking spots who are also American. Bye the way, how do we know (I don't) if he is or is not a citizen? In any case, we do not need this chauvinism even on a cooking site about food storage.

Curtis would be doing our planet a big favor by reminding folks that they can RECYCLE some of the packaging from the grocery store after transferring produce, etc. to those nice stackable plastic containers. Instead of tossing stuff into the trash and having it end up in a landfill, be aware that berry boxes, for instance, are usually #1 plastic; clean aluminum foil can also be recycled in many communities. This message should go along with the marketing of GMC's hybrid!
