How to Transport Food

Featured pro:
Category: CookingCelebrate Summer

The best part about the summer season is being able to eat outside in fun locations. Whether you're taking your meals to a ballpark or the beach, Sam Talbot shows you how to transport food in quick and easy ways. Get his tips on the best methods and equipment to keep your food items as fresh as can be.

Step 1: Food on the Go
A common mistake is to put food in your trunk. Unless your trunk is part of your car and air can circulate freely, use a cooler.

Step 2: Packing a Cooler
If you're using ice, make sure to salt it. It turns into a solid block and cuts the melting time in half. If you don't want to use ice, use an ice pack or gel pack. Use items like to-go containers and salad cruets to open up the possibilities of what you can transport.

Step 3: Refrigerated Items
Make your food the night before and use insulated bags to keep them cool. Store them on the floor of your car behind the passenger seat so they're out of direct sunlight.

Step 4: Cold Beverages
Invest in a double-insulated cup to keep drinks cool on the go. Also try freezing beverages in reusable water bottles or containers. They'll melt while you drive, and stay cool for hours.

Step 5: Snacks
Keep snacks in air-tight containers and store them in any nook and cranny of your car so you'll never be without something to keep you going.
