Flambeing seems like an impossible technique to perform at home, but it's as easy as 1-2-3. Here, Sam Talbot gives you a step-by-step way to perform the technique in your own kitchen using his delicious bananas foster recipe, which can also be used with any end-of-season fruit.

Sam Talbot's Banana Foster Flambé

Step 1: Bananas Foster
In medium sauce pan over medium high heat add butter. Let butter melt and turn a light golden brown.

Step 2: Sugar and Spice, Etc.
Add your brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and vanilla.

Step 3: Rum It Up
When sugar has dissolved remove from heat and pour in rum. Return to stove and pan should begin to flame. Let burn until alcohol has burnt off leaving the rum flavor.

Step 4: Bananas
Add your lengthwise sliced bananas right into pan and remove from flame. Make sure the bananas sit right down in sauce, absorbing all the flavors for about two minutes. Serve over whipped cream, shortcake pound cake or better yet -- ice cream!

  • 3 Bananas
  • 1/2 cup Dark/Spiced Rum
  • 1 stick Butter
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
