How to Cook in a Water Bath

Featured pro:
Category: Cooking

When what you're cooking needs a little extra TLC, a water bath can do the trick. Coddle your custards and cheesecakes with the gentle heat and steam of a water bath for perfect results.

Step 1: Bain-marie
The "water bath" method of cooking more delicate foods employs the water as a layer of control between the heat and your food.

Step 2: Roasting Dish
Put some water (about 1/2 of what you will need) in a roasting dish, and then sit the ramekins or whatever you will cook with into the water. If you are making a cake, be sure and wrap the bottom of the mold with heavy gauge aluminum foil to prevent water from seeping in.

Step 3: Oven
Put the dish into your oven, once it is in, add some hot water to the desired level. Cook for a longer period at a lower temperature.

Items You'll Need for this GMC Trade Secret

  • Ramekins
  • Cake Form
  • Heavy Gauge Aluminum Foil
  • Roasting Dish

I dont usually bake but this may be easy enough to try.. ha.. in fact, i didn't even cook til about a year ago when my girlfriend got me this hilarious politically incorrect cookbook that i love! I won't tell you the name of it here cause some of you will freak out on me, but if you google "whipped and beaten culinary works" you can find it.. but seriously don't go unless you can take a good joke or if you get offended easily..

He's cute ,love to watch him. He has his own shown now, don't remember the channel. Mostly when you do custard like flan you use a water bath. There are some cheese cakes to do that way in spring form pans. If you google what you want it will come up, or go to foodnetwork.com
