Cooking Rice

Category: Cooking

Tyler shares his formula for making perfectly fluffy rice every single time.

Step 1: Tyler's Secret
According to Tyler Florence, the secret to making perfect rice is by using a 2 to 1 method. Use two parts water and one part rice in any measurement, and perfection is guaranteed.

Step 2: Measuring
Take any kind of cup and measure your rice. Pour into a pot. Use the same cup to add two parts of water or chicken stock, depending on your preference.

Step 3: Season, Stir and Sit
Season the water with a little salt, give it one quick stir and then cover the pot. Bring the rice mixture to a boil and let it sit for about 12 minutes and you'll have perfect, fluffy rice.

Items You'll Need for this GMC Trade Secret

  • Rice
  • Water or Chicken Stock
  • Salt

I don't know why he was talking about how to cook rice when the title of the clip was "Varieties of Rice" --which is what I wanted to learn about since I recently made risotto & realized I didn't really know how to cook anything but brown rice & wild rice. One comment was about the Chinese way of cooking rice. What's that? Another comment said he was cooking instant rice -- I think the reviewer is confusing minute rice & instant rice. Again - a clip of varieties of rice would be cool!

I liked the cook that washed the rice before cooking- the rice he cooked looked perfect and not at all gummy and not stuck together

Much better than Curtis Stone's, but STILL an amateur's method! I am more pleased (at least he added salt!) but you can see the clumps and boulders :) No offense!
