Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but it's often hard to find healthy options that work with your family's busy schedule. Sam Talbot suggests homemade breakfast bars and smoothies as easy and portable ways to get the nutrients you need, and offers two great recipes to try here.

OK There's WAY too much bread on that plate. Not everybody likes smoothie's, especially in the winter, if U live in a cold climate. Dried/baked fruit is very high in SUGARS. Lean proteins and low carb vegetables and fruits are really the way to go.

Anyone has time for a good breakfast. Get to bed earlier so you can get up and cook OR make waffles the night before during commericals and put in frig or freezer.Cook up bacon or sausage the weekend before and add English Muffins and a scrambled egg for breakfast with OJ or fruit. Oatmeal is fast and so are good wholesome cereals. REMEMBER you do need PROTIEN for brain food in the morning weather its meat or nuts.
EVERYONE has time if they plan it well. Skip the bar scene and cook one evening for the week coming up. Forget processed or packaged foods. They all have junk your body does not need.

There is nothing healthy about either option. The To Go options are pure poison because they contain sugar. The prior breakfast might be healthier if the eggs are from cage free, out door access, with chickens fed grains that are organic, without pesticides. The bacon would be healthier if the pigs are not factory farmed either and not fed a diet with antiobiotics, pesticides, and growth hormone. Replace the white break english muffins for spelt toast made with organic spelt.....and drink some raw kefir....Mo better!

why is it that europeans drink coffee and eat rolls and that's it, and they're far more healthy than americans are?

You might not want to add fresh spinach to the smoothie as it wll inhibit the absorption of the calcium in the yogurt

You look amazing

featuring the 'ideal' breakfast as fried egg, bacon, pancakes/crumpets/muffins, and roast potatoes/hash browns, is enforcing the path to obesity.. It is irresponsible of this site.

The Smoothie....OK. The breakfast bar.......fattening. Eat these suckers everyday and watch the weight pile on. We now know the main cause of weight gain is sugar, in all it's forms. Grain =sugar. ANYTHING made from grain is converted to sugar in your body when you eat it.

The breakfast pictured would be ok once a week or so but no way in the world could I tolerate the carbs daily! I would be wanting to go back to bed after eating that! There is no food plan that is perfect for everyone and the sooner our culture gets that, the healthier we will become. The main idea is to eat good, wholesome WHOLE foods as often as possible and get rid of the chemical laden stuff. My favorite breakfast? Scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast, canadian bacon and fresh fruits in season. Grapes, strawberries, banana slices, kiwi etc.
